ESTRATTO DALLA RASSEGNA STAMPA INTERNAZIONALE
"...Like many piano collaborations, the music can be delicate and lovely, and it can be intensely swinging. (...) The bookend pieces, “Alter Ego” and “Blue in Green,” as well as “Single Petal of a Rose,” are enough to recommend this collection, but there are plenty of other moments that will bring joy to jazz piano fans.
Will Smith Jazz Times
"....This set seems to be a hymn to the rhapsodic as two virtuosos play a handful of tunes that lend themselves to lush, melodic interplay: songs from the standard repertoire plus a few from the artists and one by the late pianist James Williams. The tone of the session is set from the start on the Williams title tune. It flows forward in increasing beauty and if at first it’s disconcerting to not know who’s playing what, as the tune takes up momentum, it becomes clear that it’s about invention and sound and not a cutting contest.(...) Every such connection on this lovely album bears fruit."
Donald Elfman Allaboutjazz.com
"Two pianos – one vision. Tony Pancella and Larry Willis have released a duo album titled Alter Ego and with their flow and beautiful lines, it is hard sometimes to see when they do alter, and that’s what makes this album superb. (...) The real core strength of this album is the Pancella and Willis-penned songs. From "Just Wait and See" to "Annika’s Lullabye," this duo is spot on. They do a wonderful version of "Alone Together" and for that, they really are and it could be possibly the best way. There are no alter egos on this album and as far as another collaboration, it will be welcomed, we will just have to wait and see." Brenton Plourde
Jazzreviews.com
"...this one is A-1 material all the way! (...) Unlike jazz improvisers who are thrown together for the first time in the studio for a duo album, Willis and Pancella have an intimate feeling for each other's approach to the keyboard, which comes out in these smooth and swinging
improvisations..."

“...You will be the most important new talent top musician on my label.”
York Von Prittwitz ( YVP Record Company producer - GERMANY )
"...a cursory hearing of this record with no information volunteered would most likely have led many people to believe that it was an established and bright young trio from NYC... (...) ...these players sound the same as their US counterparts. If you enjoy piano trio jazz played with plenty of originality, go for this set. "
Derek Ansell (Jazz Journal International – London, UK)
"If you were enamored by the Bill Evans Trio sound, especially in the beginning years, you will love this group. Beautiful tunes, lyrical moods and tasteful playing by all three wonderful musicians in complete empathy." David Liebman (USA - liner notes CD “Different Stories”)
" In listening to this CD, I have been amazed at how much raw emotion is conveyed and absorbed after each new listening. Tony Pancella has matured into one of the most promising pianist of his generation. With the support of two wonderful and masterful collegues, in Ulf Radelius (who first introduced me to Tony several years ago), and Pietro Iodice (an extremely gifted and sensitive drummer who does a masterful job of coloring all of the musical tapestries which are always flowing on this recording), Tony has assembled and masterfully crafted an effervescent collage of musical sounds which cover at least 4 decades of musical and stylistic development. It is a beautiful and very emotionally stimulating experience to listen to Tony Pancella at this special time in his life. I can say, unequivocally, that each successive listening of this CD gets better, which is really what this art form is all about!!"
Keith Copeland (USA - liner notes CD “Different Stories”)
Specialmente il terzo pezzo A SONG FOR TONY.
(Yamamoto Takashi – TOKIO, JAPAN)
"Just as in Sweden, Italy seems to be a good place for jazz-pianists. One of my favorites from Italy is Tony Pancella. Pancella is a good representative of the tradition that came out of Bud Powell and then has been refined by musicians like Tommy Flanagan, Sonny Clark and John Lewis.
But from Pancella you can also hear the lyricism and refined sense of harmony that was the trade mark of Bill Evans. On "Different Stories" we hear beautiful and sensitive triojazz of the best quality. The interplay is very good and it is a pleasure to recognise that one third of the trio is Swedish.
Bass player is Ulf Rådelius from Malmö and besides contributing with his fine and personal bass-playing he has also written some of the best compositions of the CD. A beautiful ballad named "Aimée" and a "festive" song called "Halebopp". (Recensione "Skånska Dagbladet" – SWEDEN)
“ If there was such a thing as a “ pure jazz musician” in this multicultural global village of ours, then italian jazz pianist Tony Pancella would have a strong claim to the title...” ( Barry Davis “The Jerusalem Post” – ISRAEL )
Das kurze „Just Wait And See“ bildet ein solo gewebtes emotionales Bindeglied vom Trio zum Duo. Tino Tracanna und Tony Pancella erschließen in sanften Improvisationen liedhafte Themen zu friedvollem Zwiegespräch. „Too Many Words“ würden da nur stören: Zuhören, entspannen, genießen.“
( Tobias Böcker – “Jazz Podium” – GERMANY)
“...Pancella’s trio delivers impeccable timing and solos...”
(Mark F. Turner - Allaboutjazz.com USA) recensione
"... I like Tony's solo on "Autumn in New York" and Miles scatting here combined the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic beautifully. We see and we hear. Oo-pa-pa-da." (Ira Gitler - Author/Historian/Critic) liner notes
“...Tony Pancella is much more melodic than usual and isn't playing total side man. I appreciate that and wish he would do more solos showcasing his talent.” (Kaiyah – Digstation.com USA) recensione
